Dear members and friends,
let me take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful and prosperous New Year 2023.
Times have not been easy for all of us, so let´s think positive and start afresh into a new adventure.
I would like to thank you all personally for supporting the society in its work during the slightly frustrating times of the pandemic.
Many changes have taken place during this time. One being the passing of our beloved sovereign, H.M Queen Elizabeth II, of blessed memory.
However, life goes on and, I wish you all much happiness and joy in the New Year.

We have all gone through rather trying times and have shown a lot of patience and personal resolve.
Now it is time to smile again and party!

I hope to see all of you and many of our new members, which most of you have not met yet, at our Boxing Day Party or at the latest at one of our events in 2023.

Our first major event in 2023 will be the New Years Reception to be held at the Jewish Community on the 12th of Febuary.

Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.
The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of our dear friend and former Lord Mayor of Gießen,
Hans Görnert.
1934 - 2021
He played an instrumental and visionary role in our society and the Town Twinning Association of Gießen - Winchester.
Our honorary president, Jennifer, and Hans worked together very closely and developed a long standing friendship. I myself have the fondest memories of him and as many of you may know, I have been best friends with his son Stefan since our school days. Stefan went on supporting the society after his father had retired and moved to Berlin.
Many an evening was spent discussing the world of politics in certain establishments in the Ludwigstrasse, whilst our parents were representing the town at official events.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family. He will never be forgotten and his numerous achievements have paved the way for a better mutual understanding between countries and their peoples.
